WastAway, a Morrison, Tennessee-based trash company, wants to build a trash transport station and facility that burns trash and hopes to turn it into natural gas.
WastAway has never done this successfully and is hoping to do so along 2120 Butler Drive, North of Joe B. Jackson Parkway.
Some facts to consider:
LOCATION
This facility will be located at 2120 Butler Drive. The property backs up to Indian Hills and Savannah Ridge neighborhoods. It is also within close proximity to a childcare facility and The Village at Elam Farms apartment complex. Because this facility will be in a residential area it could be dangerous for those nearby. Producing natural gas can be a dangerous and tedious process. It is concerning that WastAway has never run a facility like this successfully in the past and it will be so close to so many homes.
Smell
WastAway claims that their facility will not have an odor. Over 150 tons of trash will be taken this facility each year. Once the trash arrives it will have to be sorted before it can go through the burning process to be turned into natural gas. It is ridiculous to claim that 150 tons of garbage will not produce any odor. This smell could directly impact properties for miles.
Truck traffic?
No traffic study appears to have been submitted. How many trucks of trash will this bring in per day? How will this impact our roads?
Property values (and wells) may plummet
Studies suggest property values can decrease by as much as 13% when located near a high-volume trash facility.
